Fleetwood Gold Keys
The Cadillac Fleetwood was first sold in 1927 as a special body, built by the Fleetwood Body Company after Fleetwood was purchased by Fisher Body in 1925. The Fleetwood nomenclature was periodically used by Cadillac from the late 40’s through the 70’s.
The Cadillac Fleetwood because a separate model in 1985 as a sister car to the DeVille, using a front-wheel drive platform. However, a rear-wheel drive Fleetwood was also offered, called the Fleetwood Brougham. In 1993, the Fleetwood name was dropped from the front-wheel drive platform and
the Brougham name was dropped from the rear-wheel drive platform.
The Cadillac Fleetwood used a variety of keys in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The ‘A’ ignition key and ‘B’ door, trunk, and glovebox key was used in 1985 and 1986. The ‘C’ ignition key was used from 1987 to 1990, followed by the ‘E’ ignition key from 1991 to 1992. The VATS ignition key was used from 1993 to 1996. The 1987-1990 Fleetwood used the ‘D’ key for the door/trunk/glovebox. The 1991-1996 Fleetwood used the ‘H’ key for the door/trunk/glovebox.
